While our careers often demand the best of us, our hearts and faith deserve just as much attention. Join us for the third annual Piety with Purpose conference: A gathering designed to center the spiritual and personal growth of Muslim young professionals.

With a format inspired by our Thabaat programs, this year’s sessions will spark honest, relevant, and thought-provoking conversations about navigating modern life through the lens of faith. Whether you’re reflecting on personal purpose or building your professional path, this conference is built for you!

PROFESSIONAL NETWORKING

This conference will feature a professional networking session from 2:30 PM - 5:00 PM for attendees to connect, engage in discussion, and build relationships with fellow young professionals in their career fields.

BABYSITTING

Babysitting now available! Please register all children for babysitting at least 48 hours prior to the event so we are able to plan for their attendance! Register and agree to babysitting terms here.

Event Speakers

Shaykh Abdul Aziz Waheed

Shaykh Abdul Aziz Waheed is an Advisor and Facilitator for Thabaat. He is a Co-founder of Miftaah Institute and also serves as Dean of Academic Affairs at Michigan Islamic Institute. He began Islamic studies at Jaamiah al-Uloom al-Islamiyyah, where he became a Hafiz. He started his 7 year Shariah program in Toronto, Canada and graduated with honors, receiving Ijazzat for teaching Hadith from prominent scholars from around the world.

Shaykh Tariq Musleh

Shaykh Tariq Musleh is a graduate from the prestigious Madinah University where he attained his Associate degree in Arabic and Bachelors Degree from the College of Sharia. Shaykh Tariq has worked as a part time instructor for Islamic Learning Foundation Chicago, where he taught Quran and Arabic studies. He has served in Young Muslims (YM) for many years as a coordinator and murrabi. Shaykh Tariq has also served as the Youth Director for the Islamic Center of Naperville in Chicago and became the Youth Director and Assistant Imam of Mecca Center in Willowbrook, Illinois in July 2017.

Tareq Tamr

Tareq Tamr is the Program Director at Thabaat and the Head of Engagement at Yaqeen Institute for Islamic Research. He studied Psychology with a minor in Philosophy and is continuing Islamic Studies on a part-time basis. He grew up in Windsor, ON and has served the local community as a youth director, khateeb, and lecturer for youth and young professionals.

Imam Mohamed Herbert

mam Mohamed was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland. At the age of 12, he completed his hifdh from the Islamic Society of Baltimore. After college he moved to Irving Texas to learn Arabic and continued his studies at the Qalam Seminary. He graduated from the seminary certificate program in 2014 and began his service as the Imam of the Mansfield Islamic Center. In 2019, he graduated from the Alimiyyah program and moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma where he served as the Youth Director and Imam for the community. He currently works as an Islamic studies instructor for Legacy International Online Highschool, where he teaches Tafseer, Fiqh, and seerah while also advising the school in curriculum development and overseeing the Islamic studies department. He also works very closely with Qalam institute as an instructor for Qalam travel and a handful of online courses.

Ustadh Mohamud Mohamed

Ustadh Mohamud Awil Mohamed is a Fontaine Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania. He holds a diploma in Islamic Studies from Abubakar As-Siddique's Institute for Islamic Studies, a BA in History from Augsburg University and an MA in Heritage Studies and Public History from the University of Minnesota. He was a research fellow at Dar al-Hadith al-Hassania in Rabat, Morocco. He has continued to study with and receive ijazat from erudite scholars both in America and elsewhere in the Muslim world: in Somalia, Morocco, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia. He was formerly resident Khateeb of Augsburg University and served as chaplain to the Muslim community at the University of Minnesota.

Shaykh Abdullah Waheed

Shaykh Abdullah Waheed was born and raised in the suburbs of Detroit, MI. He commenced his studies at the age of ten in Toronto, Canada, where he went to memorize the Quran. He completed the memorization of the Holy Quran by the tender age of thirteen and then went on to study in the seven-year extensive Shariah program in Toronto, Canada. Shaykh Abdullah specialized in the Tafseer of the Quran. Shaykh Abdullah spent years studying the details and beauty of our Holy book since understanding and mastering the language of the Holy Quran was always the primary goal. Shaykh Abdullah is a co-founder and instructor at Miftaah Institute and is also the Director of Islamic Affairs at Flint Islamic Center.
